PostProcess Technologies announced a revolutionary new solution forautomated wax support removal as a part of its offering of intelligent additive manufacturing post-printing solutions. Following extensive development and testing, a game-changing chemistry formulation, PLM-601-SUB, enables wax support removal on even the most intricate and delicate build parts.
This tried-and-true detergent is used in patented Submersed Vortex Cavitation (SVC) technology, which uses software intelligence to ensure that 3D printed parts are uniformly, consistently, and reliably exposed to detergent during post-printing for precision finished parts.
Because of its ability to create highly detailed patterns for lost wax casting, 3D printed wax casting is widely used across many industries, but it is especially useful for luxury and jewellery makers. Because of the delicate nature and high breakage rate of these 3D printed parts, highly trained technicians are required, resulting in overall low productivity. Traditional wax support removal requires IPA processing, which is time-consuming, inconsistent, and requires extensive manual labour with high technician attendance time. Because the highly flammable IPA bath must be heated, this method of support removal raises safety concerns. Because of the large amounts of waste generated, IPA’s short lifespan has a negative impact on the environment.
PLM-601-SUB detergent’s proprietary formulation was created specifically to address these wax support removal concerns. PostProcess’ new solution has a flashpoint of 200°F (93°C), low volatility, and a lifespan of 2-3 times that of other solvents. The DEMI family of solutions can process large batches of small 3D printed parts with software-controlled parameters, making the process safe and simple for operators. Full batches can be processed in about 30 minutes, significantly reducing the time required by technicians to remove wax from parts.
